Paul Reed Smith 30W HX/DA 2x12" Guitar Combo Amp
PRS do amps, just in case you haven't heard. This is one of their top-tier offerings: proper high end stuff, made by hand in USA, hand signed by Paul himself as well as amp guru Doug Sewell. HX/DA stands for Hendrix/Duane Allman. The amp is designed to replicate the iconic growl of a Marshall Super Lead and a Super Bass, as used by Jimi and Duane respectively. Each gain stage of the amp (pre, EQ, master) has as toggle for HX or DA, with slightly different feel and tone accordingly. It's a great sound: super tight, punchy bass, creamy crunchy mids with a whole lot of breath and nuance, and a pleasant tearing snarl on the top. You can get a thick, loud clean if you turn the gain right down, or with the gain dimed, it gets quite dirty indeed. The real sauce is in-between: those touch-sensitive, dirty-when-you-dig-in tones are gorgeous. Speaking of gorgeous: how's that paisley tolex? Lush stuff, through and through.
