Gibson SG Raw Power Natural 2009
Gibson SG Raw Power, natural finish, made in USA 2009. The Raw Power series popped up briefly in the 00s with a simple premise: classic Gibson models, all maple body, neck and fretboard. There's a Les Paul Studio, and this SG. It's close to an SG Special, but with a quirky almost-transparent guard and a single trap inlay at the twelfth fret. Maple is a bit denser and stiffer than mahogany, so this feels a bit more sturdy and rigid in the hands than a regular SG, although it's still super resonant and lively acoustically. The Classic '57 pickups are bright and open, which paired with the maple, makes for a snappy, snarly, articulate take on the iconic SG punch. The neck pickup delivers cleans that almost sound Strat-like, which is a fun dynamic. The bridge pickup into a cranked amp is a safe bet for a great time, with abundant sparkle and sizzle on deck to complement the growl. These don't pop up very often, so if you're after something deliciously different, this has the power.

Cosmetic condition notes: minor finish wear. The headstock has scuffs on the end as well as the back near the nut and the front around the tuner posts. The neck is clean and smooth in the hands, minor rub wear and scuffs on the back and some play wear on the board. The back has scuffs on the horns and elbow area and some surface scratches in the middle of the body and on the control cover. The sides have dimples and scuffs around the whole body, but no major marks. The front has dimples around the knobs and tailpiece, as well as some scuffs in the elbow area and some play wear on the guard and horns.
Overall: very good condition (8/10)
Playing condition notes: action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electronics tested and working properly. Wearing fresh 10/52 Moonshiners strings.
Fret Life: 8/10, minor wear only
