Gaban TD-500 Mocha Brown 1974
Gaban TD-500, mocha brown, made in Japan 1974. Gaban was a short-lived brand that popped up un Japan from 1971-4. Catalogs from that era show a bunch of Gibson-style models as well as some acoustics, but evidently they produced some Fender style stuff too. This references the then-new Telecaster Deluxe, so you get two Maxon humbuckers, a big pickguard and LP-style controls. It's a dark and gooey take on the Tele tone, with a smooth rounded warmth down low, rich midrange and a tuneful, understated top end. The mocha finish lets the sen ash show through, with some cool wide wavy lines around the bridge adding movement to the look. The board looks awesome too, it has a speckly pattern through the maple extending all the way up to the top frets. This has plenty of 70s-charm, I'm a fan.
