Yamaha SGV300, gloss yellow, made in Taiwan 2000. I love these guitars, they're a truly bizarre shape but play and sound so good that you cannot but smile. This example is one of the Taiwan-made reissues from the early 00s, which are always really nicely put together and benefit from some improved modern hardware and electronics. It's a great player: the neck is slim, straight and comfy, the body is lightweight, it's well balanced and surprisingly ergonomic... it's very easy to play. The clever blend control allows the pickups to behave like three single coils or a pair of humbuckers, so there's heaps of options on offer. The tone is somewhere between the punchy, plucky chime of a Mustang and the growly shimmering voice of a Tele Deluxe. These come in more conventional colours like candy apple red or black, but dang: that yellow is the new hotness. It's vibrant, bright and unapologetic, ready to inject some summer cheer and lemon-curd luxury into these wintery days. Heck yea.
