VG KTR-ES STD Block '67, iced tea burst, made in Japan 2016. VG is the 'other half' of the Crews Maniac Sound brand, covering flat top acoustic guitars and arched top electric models like this absolute stunner. They're built in limited runs by the iconic Terada factory, the folks behind Gretsch's high end Pro Series models for the last couple of decades, as well as some iconic Orville and Epiphone guitars back in the day. The KTR-ES model is based on the famed Gibson ES-335, but with a few little twists. First up, they use a 3-ply spruce/maple/spruce combo for the centre block, which adds some low end focus to the tone. The tonewoods on board are very carefully selected: African mahogany and Indian rosewood for the neck, 5-ply North American rock maple for the body; all tasty choices. This particular example gets the cute late-60s style mini block inlays and naturally aged chrome hardware, which ties in well with the gorgeous warm burst finish. It's a classy iced tea hue, and topped with a 'cloudy lacquer' nitro topcoat, which sits somewhere between satin and gloss and catches the light beautifully. The KTR Original pickups are excellent too: clear and open on the top end, with a woody, complex midrange and a plump, assured but understated  bass response. This will seriously scare guitars from USA at thrice the price, so if you're up for a very juicy semi-hollow, this will surely deliver the goods. VG= voluptuously gorgeous.
