(ARCHIVE) Gibson Les Paul Special Cherry 1994

- Guitarchives
Gibson LP Special, cherry red, made in USA 1994. The Special was a trimmed down take on the classic Les, debuting in 1955 as a student model with a few more luxuries than the bare-bones Junior. You get a slim, flat-topped body with a slim tapered set neck, paired with a pair of soapbar pickups and the ever-reliable tune-o-matic and stoptail bridge combo. This one, being a '94, got a pair of Gibson's P-100 pickups, the noiseless stacked version of the P-90, so that mean 60-cycle hum is gone. It sounds great: punchy and immediate, zesty highs with singing clarity and a growly midrange with plenty of attack. The finish has thirty years of minor marks and play wear, and is looking rather lush I feel. These don't come up everyday from this era in this shape, so do yourself a big ol' favour.
