Strauss Solid State 60w Amp Head
Strauss kicked off in 1962 on Toorak Road in the now upmarket-hipster suburb of South Yarra in Melbourne. They made a whole bunch of valve and solid state amps that found their way onto stages all over the country, including behind famous local players like The Aztec's Billy Thorpe and Tassie-born bluesman Phil Manning. This one dates to after the 1969 name switch to Nova Sound. It's a simple but sweet sounding solid state number. The bright and normal inputs vary significantly in default treble, so you can choose your fighter according to your guitar's natural tendencies. The EQ is pretty powerful and there's plenty of headroom on tap. Matched with a cool 70s E-Tone cab in the store, you can dial in some proper old school speaker distortion when you crank it up: glorious, and remarkably warm. It's also great clean and would be a popping pedal platform. This is a super cool little slice of Australian rock history.
