Greco Super Real EG500C Violin Burst 1982
Greco EG500C, violin burst, made in Japan 1982. What a stunning item this is. Greco started making G-style models out of the iconic Fujigen Gakki factory near Mt Fuji in the early 70s. By the time the 1982 Super Real series models rolled out of there, they had their act well and truly together: this is built with som serious skill. The black and cherry sunburst examples of this model are around, but the early-80s specific 'violin burst' finish is tricky to find. It looks gorgeous: rich amber fading to a lush chocolate brown, bordered with seven ply cream binding, faded gold hardware and some big block inlays. The tone is fat, smooth and full, with abundant natural sustain. You can pull off doomy sludgy dirges, wailing solos with pinch harmonics and big breathy rhythm parts all with equal gusto. The slim neck feels great, and at 4.3kg this is almost a full kg lighter than the last similar example we had through the store. Classy.

Cosmetic condition notes: minor finish wear. The headstock has minor scuffs on the end, edges and front around the posts. The neck is clean and smooth in the hands, minor scuffs on the back only. The back has some scuffs on the horns, a surface scratch near the switch cover, scuffs around the cavity cover and back edge and some dimples in the elbow area. The sides have minor scuffs in the elbow area and near the jack. The front has dimples in the elbow area and near the knobs, wear on the pickup covers and some play wear on the horns. The guard is missing.
Overall: very good condition (7.5/10)
Playing condition notes: action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electronics tested and working properly. Wearing fresh 10/52 strings.
Fret Life: 8/10, normal wear in minor pitting, playing smoothly with no major buzz issues
